Why might you be interested in dipping your toe in Going Gently waters?
This is a place for strivers-in-recovery.
For folk who are tired of fighting with themselves or with the world, and who want to bring some peace to proceedings.
For folk who have forgotten how deeply in love they are with the beauty of the natural world and with the amazingness of humans (despite our terrible self-protective flaws) and who want to have the gauze (gently) pulled from their eyes.
This place is for folk who don’t want to turn away from the horrors of the world, but want to approach their many responsibilities with more clarity, less guilt, more softness, and maybe with a sword-like ability to say NO.
I am excellent at Getting Stuff Done and I have lots of self-critical and self-improving parts. This has had many practical advantages, such as having written twelve books, built a successful psychotherapy practice and grown this Substack. And, these striving parts of me are tired after many years of loyal service. They’ll continue being brilliant and (I like that word so much) it is also time for them to learn how to relax, rest and play as well as work.
On Tuesdays I write micro-essays on going gently for all my subscribers. Here are a couple of appetizers (I’m Great! & So Are You! or How The Light Gets In) or do have a pootle around my homepage.
If you’re ready to wade in up to your waist rather than just dipping in a toe (maybe floating for a while) then you can also receive my Friday offerings by becoming a paid subscriber and joining the Going Gently community. This costs the same as a good bar of chocolate a month (I do like quite expensive chocolate..).
Either way, you are so welcome to explore here. I hope you find a treasure or two - a starfish, or a shiny black pebble, or even just a few slow deep breaths of the salty air…
Go gently,
Satya <3
