I wasn't going to do this at all, but the word "gentle" keeps popping up in my journaling and in conversations I have with friends. I think it is my word (and obviously I'm in the right place here :) )

Love this word! I too have chosen a word for the year for sometime ( I think it may have been you who got me started! X) Recently’Enough’ was an amazing one, this year’s has been ‘Cherish’ I’m currently in between flourish and nourish, and relish waiting for that spark!

Oooh both beautiful - I love the sound of those 'shh' words. I guess you need to be nourished to flourish so maybe flourish contains the two? I'm sure the way will unfold!

This was such a joy to read ❤️ I always have a word of the year too and I’ve been reflecting on this year and where it’s cropped up. 2023 was the year of ‘create’ although not intentionally using it to shape each day, I’ve looked back and thought I can see, like sparkles of sea glass in the sand. And lo and behold I’ve ended the year with creating a substack 😂 having a word is wonderful isn’t it, like steeping the year with intention. There are two contenders for 2024. One I feel like I really resonate with and the other I know I’m scared of which makes me think I should have it. I can’t wait to hear some others ❤️

Congratulations on your new Substack Anna Rose! I hope you enjoy being here as much as I do. Oooh, intrigued as to what your two possibilities are... maybe you'll write a Substack about it! Maybe have both? And I'm wondering if you could 'gentlify' the scary one somehow? Lovely to have you here.

My birthday month is August - and naughty August made me smile so big 🤣 looking forward to it!

Hehe I don't even know where that came from... not sure whether I could sustain naughtiness for a whole month, or what that might look like, but let's see! It's so deliciously onomatopoeic... (great month to have a birthday in!)

I've reread this twice, as it felt like it was just what I needed today. I am thinking about either "slow" or "gentle" as my word for 2024.

Ah, love how you modelled your possible words in the re-reading, and so glad it resonated. Both of those sound delicious to me (but I am biased...) - good to have you here Sara!

Can’t believe it’s this time already! I love your word and I hope you get all the joy! I turned 50 in 2022 and it was a wonderful feeling. I think my word has got to be trust this year - trust the universe, myself and that all will be well 💙💙💙

My (unofficial) word of the year for this year has been "intentional" which has really been magic for me. I've been thinking a lot about *intentionally* choosing a word for 2024, and I think next year's word might be "autonomy."

Beautiful word. I also choose a word for the year as an anchor and reminder (this year was Designful) ... I always get it made into a beaded word bracelet. Putting it on each morning helps me stay focused and is a gentle reminder throughout the year 🙏✨

I loved reading this so much I've read it twice! My word for the year is Nourish. I swung back and forth from Nurture to Nourish but the word Nurture is used so much in small business conversations attached to 'your audience' that I struggle to view it as pertaining only to my own wellness.

Normally at this time of year I am thinking of numbers goals for my biz, and working out how to expand... but I've just spent 3 months helping my Dad to declutter and adjust after loosing his wife which has meant lots of long drives and time away from my family. So I'm feeling very depleted and all I want is hug my family close, prepare and eat good healthy food, walk my dog, and swim. I know I will continue to tend and nourish my business but that is very secondary to hugging, food, walking and swimming.

Thankyou again for a lovely thought provoking piece of writing.

Ooh, nourish is such a beautiful word - sounds like you know just the medicine you need Rachel (sorry to hear about your Dad's wife). Lovely to have you here & I wish you well with your plan - so glad my writing resonated. 💗

I’ve had ‘intentional’ floating around my mind for a few weeks. I felt i let a lot of 2023 fly wildly by me and i would like to be more present and *intentional* in how i navigate 2024!

Love your choice, Satya!

Without any brainstorming or analysis I think mine might be 'grace'.

But I'll let it simmer.

Grace is one of my favourite words... I love how Anne Lamott speaks about it. Sometimes the right word just pops up without any fanfare... maybe this is yours!

It may well be! It popped into my mind again today. I'll look up Anne's words about grace. Thank you, Satya
